Korat declares temporary rabies epidemic zone in Hua Thale, in effect until Sep 17
Published 2026-08-25 · Area: Hua Thale, Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima district, Nakhon Ratchasima · Last checked 2026-08-25
Where exactly is the control zone
The order, signed by Mr. Chumphon Ratchuli, Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima District Livestock Officer, sets a control area around Ban Nong Song Hong, Moo 4, Hua Thale subdistrict
Per the announcement, the zone runs north to Moo 3 Ban Non Farang (Hua Thale), south to Moo 6 Ban Nong Talumpuk (Nong Bua Sala), east to Moo 11 Ban Bun Nimit (Hua Thale) and west to Moo 11 Ban Nong Song Hong Nuea (Hua Thale). It is in effect for one full month, August 18 through September 17, 2026
The province-wide picture right now
Nakhon Ratchasima provincial health office data from January 1 to August 21, 2026 counts 32 animals confirmed rabid, 1 human death and 218 high-risk contacts — 195 of them fully vaccinated and 23 still being followed up
This is not the year's first zone: Chai Mongkhon subdistrict in the same district was declared a temporary epidemic zone from May 29 to June 28, 2026, and mid-year reporting named stray dogs as the main carrier
If you are bitten or scratched
Wash the wound immediately with soap and clean water for at least 15 minutes, apply antiseptic, then see a doctor for the vaccine right away — do not wait for symptoms
The province's first death this year was bitten and never got the vaccine; by the time symptoms appeared more than two months later, it was too late. Rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms show, but close to 100% preventable if the vaccine is given promptly after exposure
